This Mother’s Day, we are thankful for the kind words of Ashley, mom to 12-year-old “warrior princess” Claire, who called Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) of Richmond her saving grace through the challenges of countless medical appointments, procedures, and hospital stays.

Throughout their nearly 100 days spent at the Children’s Hospital of Richmond (CHoR) at VCU in the last year alone, Ashley shared that RMHC Richmond offered her and Claire more than just a place to stay; we provided “a sanctuary amidst the chaos of hospital life” and “made a world of difference during our most challenging moments.”

RMHC Richmond made daily visits to Claire’s hospital room with meals and treats. Ashley’s private room in the RMHC CHoR house location – just a quick elevator ride away from Claire – gave Ashley the peace of mind she needed to ensure that she was taking care of herself just as she took care of Claire. Ashley remembers being unable to hold back her tears when she saw her private room for the first time, sharing that “having a comfortable space to rest, shower, and gather my thoughts felt like a hug when I needed it most.”
