16 Apr Meet the Parham Family
When Cherish and Philip Parham’s twin boys, Bowie and Oliver, were born early, they needed special care in the NICU at Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU. From June through August of 2019, the Parhams traveled from Bon Air to the hospital daily to be close to their children. They learned about Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Richmond from their time spent at the NICU when they heard lunches were available at no cost to families through our meal program, “Lunches with Love”.
Having spent so much time in the hospital while caring for their twin boys, they witnessed other families struggling, some even putting food in their pockets to save for later. They understood the emotional hardships that come with having a child in critical care in the hospital. Having to worry about the added expenses of meals, travel and a place to stay just make things that much more difficult for families. Taking notice of how families in the NICU responded to the meals provided by RMHC Richmond, they realized just how great the need really was.
After seeing first-hand how much the meals delivered brought relief to these families, the Parhams wanted to do something to contribute. That is why in honor of Bowie & Oliver’s first birthday Cherish set up a Facebook fundraiser for the boys’ 1st birthdays in June. The family made their goal of raising over $1,000 for RMHC Richmond. We are so grateful for our caring community members and advocates like Cherish Parham and her family, who see the need for our services in the hospital and are willing to support families with sick children when they need it most.
